Beautiful patterns and colours can be as uplifting as beautiful surroundings and wanting to share the joy of colour and travel played a large part in the creation of off-duty style coastal handbag brand Louella Odié.
Now working from their studio in Cowes, the mother-daughter team of Karen and Lauren Mead have built a brand selling to customers in sunny places worldwide. Their designs are stocked in Hong Kong and Bali and the UK but their customers can be found in places as diverse as New York and Brisbane, New Zealand and Norway.
All of the unique Louella Odié patterns start life as lino prints made by Karen, who is a trained printmaker, and they are often inspired by marine themes or nautical style. After an MA in printmaking Karen experimented with hand printing on leather and from there expanded into other materials, which are now digitally printed onto various fabrics and made into bags and scarves. After realising that they worked well together, Lauren joined Karen to lend her marketing skills to turn the project into a commercial enterprise.
